11/1/2017: ALL SAINT'S DAY!
Thank you to all who participated at last night's All Saint's Day Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea! Send me your pictures if you have them as I did not get a picture of everyone who was there!
10/12/2017: Friday, Oct. 13th is the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima. In celebration of this event we will be participating in a live Rosary in the front fields of the school at 2:00pm. All are welcome to join us.
Curriculum Update: 2nd grade is doing a beautiful job in preparing for their First Communion. We recently completed our discussions on God as three Divine Persons and we are currently on Chapter 4 in our religion textbooks highlighting God as our Father and Creator.
9/16/17: Families, please remember that a mandatory parent meeting for all students receiving their First Holy Communion this year will take place this Wednesday at 6:10 PM in the Banquet Hall at Our Lady Star of the Sea. I look forward to seeing you all there! - God Bless!
9/15/17: Curriculum Update!
Students have been working on learning more about the Catholic faith. They have discussed the Mass and its pieces and have discussed prayer and also learned a great deal about the importance of Mary, the Mother of God.
Over the next week students will begin working out of their official curriculum based textbooks! Please begin looking out for notices of test days on this material.

8/29/17: What are we doing?
The start of our year is being spent working on some of the basics of our faith. Students are learning about parts of the Mass, important people of our faith, and special prayers to learn. Students will soon be working on the completion of a prayer flipbook that can be used at home and will be a great study guide as we will be testing their knowledge of these prayers this year!
Food for thought: What prayers do you say as a family? Try taking time each day to share your favorite prayers with your child or show them how to pray by talking openly with God.
The first school Mass for the 2017-2018 school year will take place on Wednesday, August 23rd at 9:00 AM all are welcome to join us in the school Chapel!
5/17/17: Our Lady of Fatima Celebration
Have your students tell you about Fatima and how we celebrated the holy appearance that occurred 100 years ago! In their planners you will also find information written about a special Mass this Saturday for 9:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Directly after Mass, the congregation will process around the outside of the church while reciting The Rosary. Doughnuts and drinks will be offered in the banquet hall following the procession. Hope to see you there!
4/3/2017: Holy Week
Another Goodie from our favorite, Father Mike!
We recognize the season of Lent as a time to Reflect on and Remember our personal choices and how we can change to develop a more meaningful and positive life as followers of Jesus. It is also a time to Reflect and Remember all of God's sacrifices and sufferings and the redemption that they brought to us all. In this video, Father Mike talks about that suffering...
Experience this video from Father Mike as he discusses 4 Reasons for Fasting
Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day!! In honor of St. Patrick, we learned about his background today and his teachings of the Holy Trinity. Be sure to ask your child why St. Patrick is such a great symbol for our school, too!
March 9, 2017
Today we experienced a beautiful lesson from Father Mike again. Have a look at his video we watched today as we discussed the beautiful act of giving alms and being a selfless child of God. Also enjoy our beautiful follow-up song from the one and only, Carrie Underwood.

Choices and Consequences - Living a life as Jesus wants us to
Week of 1/9/17 to 1/13/17
SYMBOLISM - an element used to give a deeper meaning and understanding to a text; usually connected with an object that visually represents a symbolic meaning rather than a literal definition.
Students are looking into the different symbols that represent God and some of the symbolism God uses to get his points across.
- We have spoke about the Symbolism in the Holy Trinity and how the symbolic meaning behind the Trinity is used very often in modern text by authors to attach their Christian ways to their writings.
- This discussion led to a favorite of mine to help students focus on God's will for us to "pray without ceasing" and how God wants us to pray about all facets of our lives and not just bits and pieces. I call it the power of the "5 Finger Prayer" and it is a symbolic way for all of us to remember how to and what to pray about to God. Ask your child about it and check it out for yourself below!

- We took a much closer look into our beliefs as Catholics and we had the chance to apply them to our political choices through a "mock election." (Please see our Social Studies Page for more details!)
- We, as a class, have learned about Advent through a BEAUTIFUL Advent retreat here at the school.
- We have learned about the Immaculate Conception.
- We are continuing on with learning about preparing for Jesus' birth.

This week, we will NOT have Mass on Wednesday!!
Our studies this week have led us to the true beliefs of the Catholic Church as expressed through our Apostle's and Nicene Creed! Over the next few days, your child will be working on a "lap book" to help them get to know our beliefs better. Below you can see a preview of the outside of our faith book and a video that the class has already seen and loves!
